# Why do vision and environment matter for storage entrepreneurs?

**Short answer:** A clear vision of the finish line helps an owner push through setbacks, and the right environment of structure, support and people turns stress into performance. Mark starts each day experiencing the future he is creating, because in his experience results follow vision before they follow action.

## Vision

Mark means a very specific vision: what he is creating and by when, and what life looks like and feels like when it’s done. Without that, he says he flounders and his actions follow his mood. With it, his commitment shapes his thinking, his thinking shapes his actions, and his actions produce results. When one vision is reached, he creates the next.

Practical examples from his post: picturing lease-up at 85% helps you stay the course through slow months; seeing projected NOI 18 months out makes construction overruns feel less devastating; imagining a future sale encourages you to document and systemize operations from day one.

## Environment

Predictable structure and support help people endure. Surround yourself with people who are doing what you want to do, put routines and checkpoints in place, and avoid facing hard stretches completely alone.
