Short answer: As Mark describes it, a limiting belief is a thought running in the background that shapes how he sees his life and business, usually without his being aware of it. His approach is to identify those beliefs, take responsibility for them and replace them with more empowering ones, “not like this is the ‘truth,’ but like a way to have power over our life and business.”[1]
How Mark describes beliefs #
In his November 2026 post, Mark wrote that beliefs “are always running in the background, and for the most part, we are not present to them,” and that they create the lens through which he sees and experiences the world. His working view is simple: “A belief is just a thought, and a thought can be changed.”[1]
The two he found in 2026 #
- “Self-Storage is a lot harder than it used to be.” Mark realized he had been collecting experiences and data to validate this thought, and “expecting things to be hard.” He granted it may even be true, but asked why it should stop him.[1]
- “Maybe I’m too old to be playing the self-storage game anymore.” Mark noted that he tried retirement and “failed at it,” and that self-storage is the thing he likes creating the most. He wrote that he doesn’t have to play at it as full on as he did in the past.[1]
What he replaced them with #
For both beliefs, Mark chose the same replacement: “I have all the power, energy, and resources I need to hit my storage goals in 2027.” He closed the post with a Japanese proverb he heard at the ISS convention: “Vision without action is a daydream. Action without vision is a nightmare.”[1]
This answer describes Mark’s own approach as he tells it in one post. It is general education, not professional advice.
