There is a little know secret for building self storage most don’t think about, that can make the biggest difference in your goals being reached, or not.

I just stumbled across it, but now I understand. I understand the apparent reason it works, and I get the deeper power behind why it works.

In this last article as we get ready for 2016, allow me to share what has made a huge difference in my life and the success in building our self storage business.

If you have been doing the work we have been discussing in last few weeks, you are very clear on your self storage business strategy and goals. Again, as the market tightens up, and prices rise, being very clear on what you need to achieve with each facility is the difference today between success or failure.

But there is a hidden benefit I didn’t realize when I got clear on our goals and our game for building a self storage business. Here is what has made the difference for me.

Share it with anyone and everyone who has any interest in you and what you are up to.

I mean everyone.

It is amazing how many people will support you and how the they rally around you and your goal. This is an unexpected benefit I didn’t expect, and has made the most difference for our success.

You most likely know my goal for building self storage.

A $60,000,000 self storage portfolio. I share it with everyone and share it often.

I hardly go an hour in my life without some reference, thought, or declaration of our exact goal of $60 million. I have a band on my wrist with the goal. All our employees, investors, bankers, everyone knows the goal. If you didn’t know it, you know it now.

I have had investors say they are with me for the ride. They will help find other investors, organize investor meetings, mentor us, and more. Its amazing.

There is an infinite supply of money and resources in the world, and by sharing your goal, you create the space for those people and resources to show up in your life.

I have had total strangers reach out and say they heard what our team is up to and want to take part.

All I did was (1) get very clear on our goal, then I (2) shared it with as many people as I could. I still do, every chance I get.

Besides the support you will get from others, by sharing your goals out loud with the world, you will get real power!

An unexpected power.

When you are clear on what you are up to, and your environment listens you, and relates to you, as your goal… that is real power!

Not only are you driven by your goal, but everyone around you is as well. So when you are tired, or when you have set backs (as we all do); your environment and the people in it call you back to line up to your created future. Your true north.

If you have not done so yet, create your why for building self storage. Why are you in or getting in the self storage business?

Very specific. Like I need to replace the salary I lost of $80,000 per year. Or I need an additional $5,000 per month. Or I need to create a retirement package in ten years (thus a $60,000,000 portfolio with my ownership percentage).

Next, what is your specific goal with the next facility you are purchasing.
